Compare Different Types of Color Vision
Protan Simulation
Approximates reduced red-cone sensitivity. Reds look darker and can blend with greens and browns.
Deutan Simulation
Approximates reduced green-cone sensitivity — the most common type. Reds, greens and oranges move closer together.
Tritan Simulation
Approximates reduced blue-cone sensitivity. Blues and greens, and yellows and pinks, may be confused.
Achromatopsia Approximation
Shows the image by brightness only. It is a rough stand-in for complete color blindness, which is very rare.
How Color Blindness Simulators Work
Each pixel is converted to linear light and passed through a color transform that models how one cone type's signal is lost. We use the widely cited model by Machado, Oliveira and Fernandes (2009) at full severity.
The result shows which colors collapse together, which is what matters most for design decisions.
Limitations of Online Simulations
Simulations show the strongest form of each type; many people have milder differences. Screen calibration, brightness and night modes also change results.
Note: A simulator is a design aid, not a test. To check your own vision, take the Color Blind Test.
